Smart Regional Growth

New Monaco is Smart Growth. New Monaco is designed for livability, sustainability and economic performance. It is a compact mixed neighborhood with a village core that has services, amenities and jobs within walking distances.

Peachland’s Official Community Plan (OCP) places great importance on supporting sustainability. The OCP’s Regional Context Statement states that “Peachland will adhere to sustainable development practices”.

Sustainable developments create more compact, complete, and walkable neighborhoods. Developing smarter with less dependency on cars, is linked to higher quality of life, and attracts melding edge sectors of the economy.

WHAT IS SPRAWL?

Sprawl is poorly planned development characterized by the conversion of land to low-density residential suburbs, commercial centres, and business parks, all separated from one another by roads and parking lots. Sprawl means long distances between homes and work or shopping, heavy reliance on roads and automobiles, and the destruction of the very feature that induces many to live in rural developments—the natural landscape.
